Business Process Modeling

We always hear the phrase ‘’ Trust the Process ‘’ and face it we always do.

If we follow the guidelines that are proven to be working, we get our expected results in the end, and it is never a surprise. Yet this does not only apply to lifestyle and life choices it also applies to your business. But what or who makes that process perfect? The answer is You! But let us get into the details a bit, shall we?!

So, what is Business Process Modeling aka (BPM)?

Business Process Modeling is the graphical representation of a company’s workflows or simply an illustration of an organization’s business process. Modeling BP is a key component for a highly functioning business process management.

And of course, that is not all there is to it when it comes to something that is crucial for your business you would think there would be multiple approaches when it comes to Business Process Modeling or multiple techniques.

So, let us talk about the Different Business Process Modeling Techniques.

Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN)
One of the most popular techniques among large enterprises around the world.
The reason why this technique takes the crown is because it is primarily designed for process modeling, unlike the rest of the methods whose original intent was different from process modeling.
So, this method simply uses standardized symbols and signs to represent different activities and interactions

The symbols and signs used in BPMN are

Connecting objects: A dash combined with a long line is used to represent a task that has been transferred from one point to another.

Flow Objects: Circles are used to represent events in the flow objects category whilst rectangles with round corners represent activities and diamond shapes showcase decision points, see we did have a use for all those shapes we took in math class after all.

Artifacts: Used to fill in the missing information, Dotted lines show how the additional information is added, Squares outlined with dots and dashes help group elements while square brackets are used in annotating text.

Swim Lanes: This one is for the team game when two or more people must coordinate and share work to complete their task, pool represents the task whiles lanes denote people or teams

Example:

– Flowcharts

Okay, so I believe this one needs no introduction. Everyone is familiar with flowcharts or at least with the concept itself.
Creating a flowchart is insanely simple and most business users feel comfortable with it but with that much simplicity comes a drawback the flowcharts are only good when it comes to simple representations but lack the ability to model complex interactions.
